Crusin' Under the Stars
Make-A-Wish Foundation Benefit Car Show
Victory Lane Sports Complex, Phoenix
It was a GORGEOUS evening under the stars and a fine place to host such an event.
The GRASS was great.
Here is my new pet "HISSY" guarding my Cobra while I ran to the "john"!
The best "Security System" in town. Ha!!!!!!
The kids got a BIG thrill out of it. To say the least!

About (2) dozen AZ COBRA'S met and enjoyed visiting the Pensky Museum on this COLD
Saturday morning. It was a BRISK ride to say the least. I caught pneumonia. For real!

Phoenix St. Patrick's Day Parade
As you can see, my passenger for the St. Patrick's Day Parade was none other than
the infamous, Father Joe Gallespie. We had a fine time doing burn-outs for the crowd
along the entire parade route. A fun day!

Friday after Thanksgiving my friends; Frank, Tom, Kelly and Dan accompanied me to the
races and served as my pit crew for the races. I signed in so I could take them each for a
ride during the races. Tom Sanford was my first passenger, then Frank rode in the 2nd race.
Above are photos of our pit camp with all the comforts offered by Frank's motor-home.
Below are some photos taken during some of the races on the West track using the
drag strip as the main straight away (which by the way was REALLY slippery).
The Cobra ran really strong and handled flawlessly. It was a very fast course and going down the straight-away
on the drag strip we was running 125 mph in 5th gear at the end. Corner speeds averaged about 70 mph.
NOTE: the Cobra was running 6,000 rpm (hitting the Rev limiter) in 4th gear, I was having to shift into 5th
to pick up the extra 5 mph (125 mph) on the straight-away.
Unfortunately we broke something about the middle of the 2nd race and had to pack up and head home
early. It was a fun day anyway, even though I broke the car. Tom and Frank enjoyed their rides and I
had a ball driving. I've got some great video footage taken from a in-car camera that I will try to convert
into a video-clip to put on this website soon.

This years Annual Red Mountain Car Show was impressive! They had more than 150 really fine cars, trucks
and motorcycles. Attended by hundreds of car loving students, teachers, faculty and others. The weather was
perfect and their show was a great success. I was honored to have been invited and my cars did well considering
the tight competition. The Shelby lost 1st Place to a 100% Drag prepared Trans Am with a 550 c.u i. big block
with 6 ft long wheelie bars and slicks the size of a steam roller.

We decided to trailer the Cobra due to race tires, luggage and etc. It would all fit
in the trunk of the Cobra. Ha
As you can see we ran into a little snow in Flagstaff on the way to Vegas. It was
a good thing we didn't drive. It also rained on us all the way home on Sunday.
Friday morning we all met to go on a run up thru Red Rocks Park just outside Vegas.
It was a beautiful day and we all had a great drive and hamburgers at Chuck Robertson's
home afterwards. He also was gracious enough to let me use his equipment to change my
tires and wheels to the race tires for Saturday. Thanks Chuck!

Mine is the Silver # "001" on the door (2nd photo from the left).
As you can see we had a BUNCH of Cobra's wanting to get on the track and show their stuff.
After my first run we noticed that I had broken a bolt in the water pump that held the alternator
bracket in place. With the gracious help of the guys from Gordon Levy Racing, we pulled the water
pump, changed the bolt and got me back on the track again. Even with me putting in a 6,000 rpm
chip in the rev limiter (since the motor is still in the early stages of brake-in I want to take it easy),
my car performed EXTREMELY well! To say the least!
My long time friend and fellow Shelby Cobra driver, Dick Smith, took the time to sign my
dash for me. "Dick Smith, 198 mph/ U.S.Champion, To An Old Racing Buddie"
After Dick saw my car run and do so well on Saturday in Las Vegas at the FFR Western
Roundup he made this comment to me. "Well 'Doc' it's not a Shelby Cobra but it sure
runs and handles well. It's one of the fastest Cobra's I've ever seen and certainly deserves
some kind of recognition." So I had him sign my dash to commemorate the event.

To make a long story short. My car passed EVERY car on the track on their Las Vegas road
course. I was running up the rear end of every car in front of me and passing with ease. The car
handled much better than I had hoped for and is a REAL RUNNER. I was hitting 120+m.p.h.
on the front straightaway. It was a BLAST and I am ready to go do it again as soon as I can.

These are a few photos I took at a brief stop JoLeen and I took on our way back
home Sunday from the "Run to the Pines" Car Show in Pinetop. JoLeen didn't
want to be in the pictures because her hair was all messed up, she drove the Cobra!
The canyon just north of Globe, AZ is a GREAT, long, winding road through the canyon
that is PERFECT for both our cars and we had a ball. These cars take 35 mph curves at 80
with ease. What fun! Ya Hoo!
Both cars averaged about the same gas mileage. About 12 mpg with all the fun!
We never got them over 120 mph but wanted too. Too much traffic and Smokies luming
behind the bushes!
Here's some photos of the 2004 "Run to the Pines" Car Show in Pinetop, Az.

This is an OVERVIEW of the entire show (550+ cars).
My 65 Shelby GT350R (RestoMod) on display along with other Copperstate Mustang club member cars.
We had a GREAT turnout and club representation at the show this year. We didn't let the RAIN and
HAIL discourage us. We all had a GREAT time. At least I know that JoLeen and I did. JoLeen
used the Cobra to run back and forth to the local CASINO since the show was sold out and I
couldn't get the Cobra entered into the show. Oh well maybe next year!
Here's a SHORT "COBRA" VIDEO of the Run to the Pines show, take a look at the Cobra's:
