STAINLESS STEEL MAGNAFLOW MUFFLER:

This thing looks way too pretty to hang under a car! Ha

First we cut off the old system. As you can see it looks pretty restrictive. I made some measurements to reference

back too for the new system so it would be as close to it as possible in appearance. Notice the "rubber hanger

hooks" in the 3rd photo from the left. I'll address that later on.

We then cut off the old tips to use on the new Magnaflow muffler. It took some cutting and fitting but finally came

up with the right pieces and bends for attaching the tips to the muffler. The tail pipe attached the front side of the

muffler was actually very easy to fit and weld in place.

The stock muffler had a strange looking bracket welded onto it (see photo on left in second row) which

allowed the muffler to swing from two large rubber hangers. I considered using the old bracket but it was

just easier to make a new one. Besides, I didn't want to weld anything to my new stainless muffler.

So I ended up using two large steel rods which I bent into hooks that easily hangs the muffler from

the rubber hangers. We welded them to the back end of the muffler on the new pipe we added,

not to the muffler itself. They work and look great. Can't see them at all from the rear unless you

crawl underneath the car.

How dies it sound? Your probably asking.

I have to premise my comments as someone that is used to the deep throated sound of a high horsepower

V-8, so I guess I'm a bit prejudiced from the start.

I will start by saying that it definitely sounds better than stock. It has a very smooth deep mellow tone to

it, not an annoying high pitched sound at all. Very pleasing. Not a street-rod horsepower sound but

just a good breathing V-6 sound. The Magnaflow muffler certainly opened it up some. Now you can

actually tell when you start the car. You can hear the motor! Ha When you rev it up, while sitting still,

you can definitely tell that the exhaust has been changed/modified. Most definitely.

I was even more impressed when I drove it.

Now you can actually hear the motor and it gaining RMP's as you go through the gears. I did a

relatively aggressive start with a short shift from 1st and got a little 2nd gear "scratch". It sounded

pretty darn good.

Running down the street in each gear you get a nice smooth rather mellow tone out of it now.

Nothing too loud or obnoxious, just a nice mellow sound. Now people can actually here the car

going down the street. Before it was like I was running in "stealth mode". It adds to the delight of

the car going through the gears. For those with automatics, I would guess that you too would

enjoy the difference in the added sound as well. I had the top down on mine at the time of

my initial ride but I can't image it will interfere with the stereo at all . It's not that loud.

I'm pleased with the sound and would do it the same - again. No changes!

As for more power. I  haven't really romped on it yet to the point of telling much difference, if

any. Maybe a little but it's hard to judge a 10-15 hp difference...really! Besides, I didn't do

it as much for the potential power gain as I did for the sound. I just like to hear a motor when

I'm driving a motor driven vehicle. Otherwise what's the point! It might as well be electric!
