LATEST IMPROVEMENTS!

UPDATE (4/7/05)

I just finished completely re-plumbing all the fuel system, adding a dedicated fuel line,

pressure gauge and regulator for the fuel to Nitrous feed line and I have now dialed

the pressure down to 5.5 lbs (where it should be). I also installed a really kool

"purge" system for the Nitrous as well. What fun!

Notice the small "purge" tube between the hood and the cow. Here is the new "purge"

button I added inside. (I know, I need to clean the rubber shifter boot!)

I haven't run it on the drag strip yet but my preliminary tests on the street seems

to indicated that it has picked up some MEGA horsepower. So I believe it might easily

get it into the12's the next time on the drag strip. I'll keep you posted. Check back!

Rewiring redone

I never was satisfied with the wiring job that was done by Dan when we first built the car

so I recently had Jon at The Mustang Shop do some rewiring for me. The above photo

show the end results, which I am much more pleased with. Although there is a lot of

wiring due to the Nitrous, power windows, power door locks, head light relays and all the

various safety and timing control systems, at least now it has a much cleaner and neater

appearance. Thanks to Jon.

The Rear end story!

Loaded with the slicks on it and ready to go racing!

Went drag racing in November for the first time to test everything out. Made first run just to feel out the car.

Second time around, I went for broke and DID! I pulled into the water box, hit the line lock, did a great

warmup-burnout, pulled to the line, brought the engine up to 4,000 and launched it. The front end came off

the ground about a foot, the car shook terribly and popped the trany out of gear as it slammed to the ground.

I jammed it back in gear, shook the slicks and finished what was by then a terrible run.

When I got to the return road I hear "a funny noise" OOPS! I broke it. I was sure I had trashed the

28 spline axles or something so I just drove it on the trailer and went home. The next day I picked

up the phone and called MOSIER rear ends and ordered an all NEW Mosier setup with a 9” True Trac

Posi 31 H.D. spline axles with 3:70 pumpkin all inside a brand new housing.

After the new rear end arrived and we got it painted and ready to install we tore into the Shelby.

Pulled the rear end assymbly, at which time we saw what the REAL problem was. I had actually

crushed the axle housing pads that are welded on the bottom that sits on the leaf springs. This

caused the front of the rear end to rise, put the drive shaft into a terrible bind and ripped the

rear universal joint almost apart. This TWISTED the driveshaft (front and rear) so it looked like

a freshly baked bread stick. (photo to come)

Needless to say, I also needed a new drive-shaft, so I ordered a new 2" Chrome Moly drive-

shaft. That shouldn't twist!

Thanks goodness for drive-line safety loops. If it hadn't been for my rear drive-shaft loop it

probably would have put it in such a bind that I would have lost the shaft during the run.

But I made it. It held and got me home safe.

I completed the repairs by reinforcing the drag-master bars and installed new rear drag bars

pads and H.D. axle bolts as well. All shown in the photos above.

Now I am trying to get some miles on the new rear end gears so I can try it again! HA

Maybe next time I'll actually get to hit the Nitrous!
