Queen Mary Car Show

Long Beach, CA

The trip to Long Beach, California was our madden-voyage for breaking in my new

347 stroker engine. When we left Phoenix it only had about 60 miles on the new motor.

Everything was new: engine, trany, hydraulic clutch, exhaust, custom motor mounts, etc.

so I left town with a lot of unknowns that could have pooped up. Thankfully the trip went

flawlessly with not one problem. Shelby ran like the wind.

There were 5 Mustangs that caravan'd from Phoenix to Long Beach together plus a motorhome

pulling an emergency trailer- just in case (which by the way, was the only vehicle that had mechanical

difficulties along the trip). It was a long and hot drive across the S. California desert. A 116

degree day. Thank God I put A/C in my '65, we would have died without it. The 6th car on the right

was Matt's who had driven over to California a day earlier but that Sunday morning ended up

with a cut fuel line and didn't make it to the show in time to get his car in the show (unfortunately).

Several other car owners in our group took trophies in their classes as well, so it was a good day!

And a beautiful setting next to the Queen Mary (in the background). But a LOUZY show. No

food, limited drinks and NO vendors. POOR planning on the part of the organizers.

My 64-66 Fastback Modified class and my competition! There were 6 cars in all in my class.

Both the First and Second Place winners had Paxton Blowers on their cars and they were

gorgeous! Well deserving of their awards. Even the losers were beautiful cars as well.

A total of 247 Mustangs were on display. A great showing of some beautiful cars.
